As much as Tyronn Lue would like David Blatt to coach in the NBA All-Star Game, it’s not possible

New Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue is taking over a team that is currently in first place in the Eastern Conference. Lue would be coaching the Eastern Conference at the All-Star Game if it was today since the Cavs have the best record. However, Lue would prefer if the recently fired David Blatt coached at the All Star Game.

Certainly the right thing to say from Lue. However, that’s simply not happening because Blatt isn’t an active coach in the league. Luke Walton also won’t be able to coach the Western Conference because Steve Kerr is their active head coach and he also coached the Western Conference last season. The NBA does not allow coaches to coach the same conference in consecutive seasons.

It appears that Tyronn Lue has a great chance of coaching the Eastern Conference All-Star team. Of course, he could just decline it and allow Toronto Raptors head coach Dwayne Casey be the head man in the contest. Casey’s Raptors are currently second in the Eastern Conference and the All-Star Game is being held in Toronto this season. Lue bowing out and letting the hometown coach be a part of the festivities appears to be the best solution for both sides if Lue isn’t interested in coaching at the All Star game.

Lue will make his head coaching debut on Saturday night when the Cavs take on the Chicago Bulls.
