Chelsea are having a dismal season are set to miss out on European football altogether. Here are five Chelsea players that teams should pursue this summer.
It truly has been an unforgettable season for Chelsea. Unfortunately, it has been such a year for all the wrong reasons. Chelsea have struggled all season, moving from controversy to controversy, mistake to mistake, ultimately culminating in the sacking of their greatest manager of all time and arguably the best manager in the world.
Cracks began to show in the Chelsea ship when Jose Mourinho, the then manager, inexplicably accused team doctor Eva Carneiro of causing his side to lose due to doing her job and prioritizing the safety of the players. Unfortunately, the obnoxious and arrogant Portuguese manager couldn’t see the truth behind his big ego and Carneiro was eventually sacked.
This was the beginning of Chelsea’s downfall as the club spiraled out of control until Mourinho was sacked in December with the club sitting 16th in the Premier League only a point above relegation. Since then Guus Hiddink has since taken over managerial duties til the end of the season but has yet to return Chelsea to top form, although results have gradually improved.
It looks almost inevitable that they will not make the top four, they currently sit 14 points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth and need a miracle to even be playing in Europe next year, never mind the Champions League. With the very real possibility of Chelsea not playing in Europe’s elite competition, there have been the beginnings of rumors of players wanting away from Stamford Bridge.
Every top player wants to play in the Champions League and Chelsea, although this season’s form has been woeful, still have some top quality players. Many of these players will be seeking pastures new and there will be a lot of clubs around Europe who will hoping to snap up such players.
