Josip Ilicic scores incredible free-kick (Video)

Josip Ilicic scored a fantastic free-kick against Torino on Sunday morning.

Fiorentina have had a brilliant campaign thus far, as they fight for top spot in Serie A and remain alive in UEFA Europa League action. However, after dropping consecutive matches in the Italian top flight, the Viola knew they needed three points against Torino on Sunday

They got just what they were looking for from their Slovenian midfielder, Josip Ilicic. He has been one of the bright spots for the team all season long, and Sunday was no different. With the game scoreless after 24 minutes, the 27-year-old, put his side up 1-0 at home with a fantastic free kick to beat Torino goalkeeper, Salvador Ichazo.

Fiorentina’s Gonzalo Rodriguez would double the club’s lead in the 83rd minute, and the game would ultimately finish 2-0. The Viola now sit third in the Serie A table, with 41 points from 21 matches. Their 39 goals on the season is the second most in the league, and Ilicic’s contributions have been a big reason for the team’s success in front of the net.

The Slovenian now has 10 goals and four assists in 17 league matches, finding the back of the net three times this month. Ilicic is in his third season with Fiorentina, after joining the club from Palermo back in July, 2013. He has spent the last six years on the peninsula, and has been one of the most exciting players to watch throughout that time.

Fiorentina’s next match takes place next Sunday, when the club take on Genoa at 9 a.m. ET.
