Marek Hamsik split two defenders to score a lovely goal against Sampdoria on Sunday.

Napoli have had a stellar campaign under Maurizio Sarri this season. The Italian tactician was named as the team’s head coach last summer, after Rafa Benitez opted to join Real Madrid. The club have thrived under Sarri, as they came into the weekend’s action sitting atop the Serie A table.

With Juventus just two points behind them though, Napoli knew they needed all three points when they visited Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday. They wasted little time, opening the scoring in just the ninth minute of play. Gonzalo Higuain scored his 21st goal in 21 league games, when he beat Sampdoria goalkeeper, Emiliano Viviano.

The teams would then exchange goals before, Napoli captain Marek Hamsik decided to the steal the show. Seconds after Sampdoria defender, Mattia Cassani, was sent off for a second yellow card, Hamsik restored his team’s two goal lead with an absolute stunner. The Slovakian split two Sampdoria defenders and toe poked the ball to the back of the net.

"GOAL! Hamsik with some quality close control, before poking home. @sscnapoli up 1-3. #SerieA https://t.co/7IYwQ6fpTI— beIN SPORTS USA (@beINSPORTSUSA) January 24, 2016"

The win ensured Napoli will remain at the top of the table, with Juventus hosting Roma in a crucial contest on Sunday afternoon. Sarri’s side have an impressive 47 points from 21 matches, and also won all their UEFA Europa League group stage matches. They will be in action again next Sunday, when they host Sarri’s former club, Empoli, at 9 a.m. ET.
