Peyton Manning is headed to his fourth Super Bowl.

The Denver Broncos beat the New England Patriots with a 20-18 effort on Sunday afternoon, reaching their seventh Super Bowl in franchise history. Denver’s quarterback Peyton Manning has reached his fourth Super Bowl, easily the most improbable of his career. Denver watched Manning throw 17 interceptions in the regular season, only surpassed by Blake Bortles despite Manning only starting in nine games.

Manning was injured and then benched by head coach Gary Kubiak, only to come back in for the second half of Denver’s Week 17 game against the San Diego Chargers, with quarterback Brock Osweiler playing like hot garbage. At this point, Manning coming back into the foray was the right move. Manning has played well in the postseason by avoiding any interceptions.

For Manning, this is likely his final chance to win a second championship. Manning made it to the Super Bowl in 2006 with the Indianapolis Colts before getting back there three seasons later, with a  win and a loss, respectively. In 2013, Manning got back to the Big Game in his third season with the Broncos, but was blown out by the Seattle Seahawks, 43-8.

Only Joe Montana, Jim Kelly, Tom Brady, Roger Staubach and Terry Bradshaw have ever been in four Super Bowls as starting quarterbacks.
