Rob Gronkowski came up with a clutch play in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game for the Patriots

The Denver Broncos had the upper hand on the New England Patriots for almost the entirety of the AFC Championship game on Sunday afternoon. However, Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski weren’t going to go quietly into the good night with a berth in Super Bowl 50 on the line. Late in the fourth quarter, Gronk came up with a huge play to keep the Pats’ hopes alive.

After starting a drive right after the two-minute warning with solid field position, Gronkowski made a big play over the middle on fourth down to put the Patriots in the red zone. He then followed that up with another huge play as he made an agile grab in the back of the end zone to bring the Pats within two points of Denver:

However, Gronkowski’s effort was all naught in New England. They still needed a two-point conversion to tie it up with the Broncos. Brady dropped back and was picked off in the end zone for a failed conversion attempt. After a failed onside kick followed, the Broncos ultimately advanced despite Gronk’s attempt at heroics. Considering he essentially made the only two big plays with the game on the line, I’m not sure what else he could’ve done to help the Patriots stay alive.
