All you need to know about NFL free agency and when it begins.
It’s never to early to fire up the free agency ticker. If your team is sitting at home right now, then you’re probably already waiting on the next season. Hell, you might already have your free agents targeted, their potential salaries figured out and the ideal lineup to take you into the 2016-17 postseason.
Heading into this year’s round of free agency there is a pretty solid crop – mostly made of defensive players. Before diving into them, though, let’s touch on offensive star numero uno: Alshon Jeffrey. This is a very interesting case, as Jeffrey will undoubtedly be looking for low-end No. 1 wide receiver money. However, while good, his best years were as a No. 2 feasting off defenses that covered Brandon Marshall. Were he to depart Chicago, that would likely leave the Bears without both him and Matt Forte – it’s the dawning of a new era.
Now, looking at defense there are several stars. Muhammad Wilkerson will command a big payday. And Vonn Miller will be getting paid out nicely after anchoring Denver’s stout defense. However, the most intriguing character is Josh Norman. The bombastic defensive back was a gadfly for wideouts all year long and really came into his own during Carolina’s banner season.
When free agency begins at 4:00 p.m on March 9, things should get interesting.
