Answering the question on everyone’s mind: Where is the 2016 NFL Draft?
The NFL Draft can’t get here soon enough, can it? Like, enough, of the games already, amiright? I mean we get it already. Now let’s move off the gridiron stuff to the real meat and potatoes: the NFL Draft.
The ascension of the NFL Draft over the past half-decade has been nothing short of incredible. Once the Shield went all-in on it and realized that fan’ appetite for pigskin is insatiable the marketing minds went to work. Move to primetime, extend the days, extend the days again, collect money.
And really, it makes complete sense. The Draft is that one special period of time where college football fans and NFL fans care about the same product. For the college folks, it’s a point of pride as to where and how many of their guys were selected. For the NFLers, well, it’s all about bolstering that roster and playing the game within the game (we’ve all seen Draft Day – kidding … kinda).
After a long run in New York City, the NFL decided on its latest expansion plan in 2015 by moving the draft to Chicago. There were scheduling issues with Radio City Music Hall, so bam! Sheriff Goodell moved the party to Second City. And boy what a hit it was. Chicago was a lovely host and offered up some beautiful scenery on the river for a backdrop of the coverage.
Come 2016, it’s time for another run in the Windy City. Grab an Old Style and some Malort, and enjoy the show from Chicago (April 28-30).
