Highlights and results from Alberto Del Rio vs Kalisto at the 2016 Royal Rumble for the U.S. title

Kalisto shocked the WWE world two weeks ago on WWE Monday Night RAW when he defeated Alberto Del Rio for the United States Championship. However, Del Rio got the win and his title back in the rematch later that week on SmackDown. That left the rubber match again for the belt to take place at the 2016 WWE Royal Rumble.

Kalisto started the match as the aggressor, using his speed and quickness with his strikes to send Del Rio going back. However, the champ then took back the advantage briefly by using his power. When a counter sent him to the floor, though, Kalisto capitalized with a dive to the outside:

Kalisto then tried to help his plight at the Royal Rumble by going to the top rope again with ADR back in the ring, but the challenger was caught with a step-up enzuigiri. Del Rio then stayed on top of the challenger with his strength advantage, dismissing any of Kalisto’s counters and offense relatively quickly:

Del Rio continued the onslaught, including a wicked Lungblower:

Kalisto was able to escape a pin by getting to the ropes, but was then caught by Del Rio’s low superkick that “won him the championship.” However, as ADR went for another enzuigiri, Kalisto ducked it and then turned it into a monstrous DDT:

The challenger then tried to hit some more fast-paced offense, but Del Rio wouldn’t stay down:

ADR soon regained the advantage and delivered a nasty inverted superplex:

The champ then got Kalisto set up in the corner for his foot stomp. However, Kalisto was able to get out of the way and then move quickly to land a Salida del Sol:

Del Rio got back on top with a Backstabber, but Kalisto kept fighting and wouldn’t be denied. As it looked like ADR was setting up to end it by removing the turnbuckle cover, Kalisto sent the champ flying into said turnbuckle, setting up another Salida del Sol:

That was enough for the win and for Kalisto to be crowned the new United States Champion at the 2016 Royal Rumble.
