Lionel Messi has given his Barcelona shirt to a pitch invader after Barcelona’s La Liga victory over Malaga.

Lionel Messi is pretty great. While he tries not to play his taxes off the field, on the field, he is a hero to many. He can do things with a football that many can only dream of, and it is only a matter of time til one of the dreamers tries to meet their hero. One such dreamer got his opportunity this weekend at the end of Barcelona’s 2-1 La Liga victory over Malaga.

The young kid fought his way out of the stands and onto the pitch after the full-time whistle was blown. Initially held back by security, the kid eventually made his way to meet his idol, embraced the magician and then walked off the pitch with his jersey. Not a bad day’s work.

The whole situation showed how overly careful security staff can be in the modern world. Unfortunately, the threats that crowd violence can have on players is very real, and consequently, such care is taken by security teams. However, it seems a tad over the top that a kid just trying to get a catch of his hero is held back so vigorously.

It is easy to see why the kid tries so hard to meet Messi, even for just a second. Messi is the best player in the world, no matter what any Cristiano Ronaldo fan may say, and he has been for some time. It is clear why anyone would go to any lengths to meet the Barcelona star, and it is a sweet move of Messi to embrace the fan and give him his shirt.
