The annual Super Bowl media day is undergoing some changes this year. Here are the changes and when it will be held.
The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers will be meeting in Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara. Every year in the two weeks leading up to the big game between the two teams, there’s plenty of events in the area for fans and the media alike as everyone awaits the big game.
One of those traditions is Super Bowl media day. Every year, players from both teams take part in a media day at a nearby arena, where reporters ask them questions about the upcoming game and everything else. It’s become the grand stage for some of the most memorable quotes by star football players.
This year, the format for media day is changing. Rather than being held in the morning on a Tuesday, media day, which is now dubbed “Opening Night,” is going to be held on Monday. It will be the first big event leading up to the Super Bowl during Super Bowl week.
It takes place on February 1, and rather than being in the morning, it will be aired from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. it primetime. It’s become such a huge sensation, that the NFL is taking full advantage of the popularity that was once media day.
While the actual format is the same, it’s now being marketed entirely differently and will set the stage for the week leading up to the game. That means for three hours, fans will get to hear from the likes of Peyton Manning, Von Miller, Josh Norman, Thomas Davis, Cam Newton and many others.
