Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich after losing to the Warriors took a less than subtle shot at the Cavaliers
The San Antonio Spurs were absolutely outclassed and outmanned on Monday night with Tim Duncan out of the lineup against the NBA’s best and defending champs in the Golden State Warriors. Golden State trounced them in a major way, which obviously left Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich in quite a terrible mood. In a short press conference after the game, though, he did take the time to fire a shot at the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After the loss to the Warriors, Pop had this to say about his job coaching on Monday night in Oakland and about his players:
Pop: "I'm just glad my general manager wasn't in the locker room. I might have gotten fired."

Though some may take it as reading between the lines, Jeff McDonald who quoted Pop in that tweet later confirmed that there was “nothing subtle” about what Popovich was saying and that he was definitely taking shots at the Cavs and their recent firing of David Blatt.
The ultimate “team” in the NBA, it’s unsurprising that Popovich would throw a barb or two at Cleveland for quite obviously allowing LeBron James to largely dictate the moves of the front office and, though he denies it, allegedly have a hand in getting Blatt out of power and bringing in Tyronn Lue as his replacement.
That being said, it’s still no less shocking to see an opposing head coach—even Gregg Popovich—taking shots like this at a team that they weren’t even playing against on Monday night. We’ll have to see if LeBron or the Cavs have anything to say in response to Pop and the Spurs in the coming days.
