Vinny Del Negro doesn’t believe those Blake Griffin fight reports

Blake Griffin reportedly broke his hand punching someone in Toronto, but Vinny Del Negro isn’t buying it.
Former Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro isn’t buying all of those recent reports about Blake Griffin breaking his hand on someone’s face in Toronto. That’s what the word was early on Tuesday morning, as it was reported that Griffin broke his hand after getting into an altercation away from the team during their recent road trip.
Later in the day it was confirmed that Griffin had a broken hand and would be missing the next 4-6 weeks. There’s pretty heavy speculation that Griffin was in a fight, but his former head coach isn’t ready to believe anything without further confirmation. Del Negro took to Twitter on Tuesday to defend his former player and let the world know that he’s not going to pass judgement just yet.
To be fair to Griffin — and Del Negro — there are conflicting reports about just what happened when Griffin broke his hand. While reports from ESPN and other major outlets cited a fight with a staff member, TMZ reported that there was no police report filed to the Toronto PD. That doesn’t mean something didn’t happen, it just means that we don’t have all the facts in.
Del Negro might have been an average to subpar head coach, but at least he’s smarter than most of us on this one.
