Here’s the big reason why the Chicago Bulls probably won’t trade Taj Gibson anytime soon.

The Chicago Bulls have had quite the interesting season this year. They’re about where they usually are in the Eastern Conference, but that could quickly change as injuries and a lack of rhythm under new head coach Fred Hoiberg weigh them down.

The Bulls have been hit hard in the last month by injuries, with Joakim Noah and Nikola Mirotic going down with long term injuries. While Pau Gasol has been having an outstanding season for the Bulls, they took a serious blow to the depth of the roster by losing Noah and Mirotic.

Forward Taj Gibson is going to be heavily relied upon with the injuries up front for the Bulls. Although he’s long been the subject of trade rumors around the league, the Bulls are in a position where they can’t exactly just trade him away now, because that would leave Gasol, a free-agent-to-be and rookie Bobby Portis.

ESPN’s Marc Stein pointed out that the injuries to Noah and Mirotic, should give the Bulls more incentive to keeping Gibson around.

While Gibson isn’t anything specatcular, he’s a solid player and provides value in depth for the Bulls up front. He’s physical and isn’t afraid to mix it up down low.

With the Bulls looking to hold on without their depth up front, he’s going to be a critical player that’s going to need to hold down the fort alongside Gasol.

Gibson and Gasol will have to figure out how to play next to each other and space the floor, otherwise things could possibly end up clogged. Unfortunately for the Bulls, that’s the type of strategy involved when depth takes a hit because of injuries.

If the Bulls had been thinking about trading Gibson before, they probably aren’t considering moving him now.
