High Salary PG

Stephen Curry-Golden State Warriors (11,300): Curry had to watch his team lose to the Mavericks from the bench due to injury, and he will be out for revenge tonight at home against Dallas. Since the Mavs played just last night while the Warriors have rested since Monday and the game is at ORACLE, I don’t see it being a close competitive game, but Curry can get so many fantasy points in a hurry that he is still worth a look at the top of a stacked PG pool tonight.  Curry has at least 52 fantasy points in each of his last five games while averaging 34.8 points, 7.0 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.6 steals.  He only had to play 28 minutes against the Spurs on Monday to get 52.9 fantasy points on 37 points, five steals, three assists, and two boards.  He’s the most expensive player available tonight, but he also should be motivated and ready to lay a beatdown on the Mavs. The only thing that makes him high risk is his price and the fact that he probably won’t have to play the fourth quarter.

Russell Westbrook-Oklahoma City Thunder (10,500): Westbrook and the Thunder are facing the T-Wolves for the third time in their last ten games tonight, and in both previous games Westbrook had solid numbers.  He finished with 45.9 fantasy points on January 12 with 22 points, 11 assists, and seven rebounds and followed that with 42.2 fantasy points on a triple-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds, and ten assists on January 15.  Westbrook has at least 48 fantasy points in five of his last six games and is a solid alternative to Steph tonight even though he is on a back-to-back after playing 44 minutes last night in the Thunder’s OT win over the Knicks.

Kemba Walker-Charlotte Hornets (9,200): The Hornets continue their trip to the West at less than full-strength with Cody Zeller, Nicolas Batum, and Jeremy Lamb all missing time in addition to Al Jefferson who is out after knee surgery.  Walker has been carrying the team’s offense in the absence of all those other options and as a result has at least 41 fantasy points in four of his last five games including a game with 75.8 fantasy points and a game with 69.9 fantasy points. His matchup tonight in Utah isn’t a great one since they usually defend opposing PG well especially at home. However, Kemba crushed the Jazz last Monday for 52 points adding nine rebounds and eight assists for a total of 75.8 fantasy points. Walker probably won’t reach those lofty numbers tonight, but he is carrying so much of the scoring load for the Hornets that he’s a good play who could be a great play if Batum and Lamb are out again tonight.  No Batum-∗∗∗ With Batum-∗∗

Isaiah Thomas-Boston Celtics (8,300): Thomas is losing some minutes to Marcus Smart since Smart’s return from injury, but he’s still playing at a very high level and continues to pour in points as he runs the Boston attack.  He has at least 19 points in each of his last ten games with 20-23 in each of his last five.  He has added good assists numbers as well which have buoyed his fantasy production like in Monday’s win in Washington when he finished with 41.3 fantasy points on 23 points, nine assists, and four rebounds.  Thomas is in a great matchup against the Nuggets tonight who allow the third-most fantasy points in the NBA to opposing PG and have allowed more than any other team in the NBAin their last five by a wide margin. ∗∗∗∗

Ishmael Smith-Philadelphia 76ers (6,900): Smith faces off with Reggie Jackson of the Pistons tonight in a matchup of two of the most volatile fantasy options at PG. Smith had a good game last night at home in the Sixers win over Phoenix finishing with 38.5 fantasy points. He has at least 38 fantasy points in six of his last ten, but he’s risky since he can also put up total duds like he did against Boston on Sunday finishing with just 17.2 fantasy points. ∗∗

Kyrie Irving-Cleveland Cavaliers (6,800): Maybe a matchup with the Suns can help Irving get his groove back in fantasy basketball since Phoenix has been the second-worst team against opposing PG this season.  Irving did have a solid game on Monday with 29.8 fantasy points thanks to nine rebounds and four assist stop go with his 17 points.  He’s still getting up to full speed, but the matchup against the Suns without Brandon Knight could allow him to have a breakout game tonight.
