According to a report, the New York Knicks are one of many teams interested in Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague.
It’s officially NBA trade rumors season and the rumors are already beginning to fly around the league. By this point of the season, it’s clear which teams in the league are contenders and which teams need to adjust direction and begin making moves.
One player that could be on the move over the next month is Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague. With the emergence of point guard Dennis Schroder, Teague has become expendable in the right deal and it could allow Atlanta to strengthen another area of need and gain assets in return.
According to ESPN Staff Writer Ian Begley, the New York Knicks are one of several teams that are interested in acquiring Teague from the Hawks.
"The New York Knicks have spoken with the Atlanta Hawks about a potential trade for point guard Jeff Teague, league sources tell ESPN.com.The Knicks are one of several teams to express interest in the 27-year-old Teague. Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that Atlanta has been discussing potential Teague trades with multiple teams."
With the emergence of Kristaps Porzingis in New York and already having Carmelo Anthony in place, adding a piece like Teague makes a ton of sense for the Knicks. However, as Begley notes in his article, it’s going to be hard to get a deal done, as the Knicks are still recouping assets and don’t have much to offer right now.
The Knicks don’t have a first-round pick until 2018 and don’t have much to offer in the way of young players right now. While they could be a great destination for free agents given their situation, they aren’t in the best situation to make trades at the moment.
