The Los Angeles Galaxy officially announced the acquisition of Ashley Cole on Wednesday.

After weeks of speculation, the Los Angeles Galaxy confirmed that they have signed former Arsenal and Chelsea defender, Ashley Cole.

Despite bringing in the likes of Giovani dos Santos and Steven Gerrard, the Los Angeles Galaxy had a rather disappointing season in 2015. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Seattle Sounders, and were far from the side that lifted the MLS Cup the year before.

On Wednesday, the club announced that they have signed former Chelsea defender, Ashley Cole. Even though he is 35-years-old he still has plenty in the tank, and his new head coach, Bruce Arena, is more than excited to have him join the squad.

“Ashley Cole has a great history. We know that doesn’t necessarily translate on the field when you come to MLS but my interactions over the last couple of months show me that he’s a player that has a strong desire to play here in Los Angeles,” Arena said in an interview with LAGalaxy.com.

Cole spent six seasons playing in the Premier League with Arsenal, before joining Chelsea in 2006, where he played for eight seasons. He opted to join Roma last season, where he managed to make 11 league appearances, but hasn’t featured for the club once this year.

The Englishman also made 107 appearances for his country, being capped for the first time back in 2001. He played In three consecutive World Cups for England from 2002-2010, as well as, both Euro 2004 and 2012.

The Galaxy kicks off the 2016 MLS season on March 6, when they host D.C. United.
