Luke Walton isn’t looking to rush his first official head coaching job.

The Golden State Warriors might be the best team in the history of basketball, as their roster of talent this year has had a hard time losing. Steph Curry is a superstar and the face of the league while his supporting players are more than just guys who play around him — the complete a dominating force that seems poised to take home another NBA Finals win.

Steve Kerr was credited with a lot of the team’s success last season, but this year it has been Luke Walton reaping the praise. With Kerr recovering from spinal surgery over the offseason, Walton took over head coaching duties for the first half of the season and is now a favorite to land a head coaching job next season.

Walton went on 95.7 The Game and said that while he had fun coaching the Warriors, he’s not looking to rush into an NBA head coaching job next season.

"“I’m not in a rush to go out and do anything different,”Walton said. “I enjoy the assistant role too … I’d love to be back again next season.”"

This doesn’t mean that Walton won’t be coaching a team next season, as he’s going to a top option for all teams who move on from their head coaches before next year. Brooklyn is already looking or a coach and there’s a chance that Cleveland might dip into Golden State’s pond to find a way to beat their NBA Finals nemesis. Then again, Walton is coaching what might be the best team in the last 20 years — if not the history of basketball — so it’s not like he’s been challenged by taking a lowly team to soaring heights.

That’s what he’ll be asked to do in his next job, but that might not end up coming as soon as we’re all expecting it to.
