New Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue will coach the 2016 NBA Eastern Conference All-Stars.
Everyone’s been wondering since the Cleveland Cavaliers fired David Blatt, just who would be coaching the Eastern Conference All-Stars in the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto. Despite the fact that Blatt had all the wins as head coach of the Cavaliers, his replacement, Tyronn Lue, will coach the Eastern Conference in the NBA All-Star Game.
The speculation arose considering Lue had just taken over the team and would only have very little games coached on his resume by the time the All-Star Game rolled around. Still, the Cavaliers record applies to him in terms of coaching the game so he will represent the east.
With the game in Toronto, there was speculation that Toronto Raptors head coach Dwayne Casey would be given the nod, since the Raptors had the second-best record in the conference behind the Cavaliers.
It made sense considering that Gregg Popovich was coaching the Western Conference All-Stars, despite the San Antonio Spurs having the second-best record in the conference.
The reason Popovich got the nod is because a coach can’t coach the All-Star team two years in a row and Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr coached the team last season. All the speculation can be put to rest now that Lue has been named the coach of the Eastern Conference.
There will be plenty of discussion over the next couple of weeks whether or not naming Lue the head coach of the Eastern Conference as the right decision considering the fact that he just became head coach.
