Kevin De Bruyne confirmed he will be out for at least 10 weeks after he tore ligaments in both his knee and ankle.
While Manchester City came from behind to beat Everton in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup, the victory came at a costly price. On Thursday, it was confirmed that the club’s Belgian international, Kevin De Bruyne, will be out injured for at least 10 weeks and will not be able to participate in the tournament’s final at Wembley Stadium. Before going down injured, the midfielder had a goal and an assist in the game.
The loss is detrimental to Manchester City’s push for a Premier League title, as the 24-year-old has featured for the club 19 times in league competition so far this season. The Citizens currently sit in second place, with 44 points from 23 matches and losing De Bruyne will certainly not help them catch current league leaders, Leicester City.
Thursday’s announcement also means that the Belgian will not be able to participate against Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. Manchester City will travel to the Ukraine to take on Dynamo Kyiv on February 24th, but will not have De Bruyne back until at least the semi-final stage of the competition if they make it that far.
In an interview with the Guardian earlier on Thursday, the midfielder’s agent. Patrick De Koster, spoke of his client’s disappointment to be out injured.
“Kevin will be out for at least six weeks but it is too early to know more at this stage,” De Koster said to the Guardian. “He’s confident. Of course he is a bit sad that he will miss so many important games like the Capital One Cup final and Champions League but Kevin would not be Kevin if he wasn’t already thinking about playing again for City.”
The Citizens will be in action next on Saturday in FA Cup action, when they travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa at 10 a.m. ET.
