NBA All-Star Game 2016: 5 biggest snubs
Who are the 10 biggest snubs from the 2016 NBA All-Star Game after the announcement of the reserves
The 2016 NBA All-Star Game is just over two weeks away, meaning that things are starting to take shape for the weekend and the game itself. After the All-Star Game starters and the results of the fan voting were revealed on Jan. 21, the reserves were announced on Thursday night with the respective coaches making the decisions.
The reserves for the Western Conference will be Draymond Green, Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Chris Paul, Klay Thompson, James Harden, and LaMarcus Aldridge. These seven players will join Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Kawhi Leonard, who were named as the starters.
For the Eastern Conference, the seven reserves are going to be Paul Millsap, Chris Bosh, Jimmy Butler, John Wall, Isaiah Thomas, Andre Drummond, and DeMar DeRozan. They will join the starting five of Kyle Lowry, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Paul George, and LeBron James to comprise the roster for the East.
Of note from the reserves is the fact that Cousins is in the All-Star Game for the second consecutive year, the first time that’s happened for a Sacramento Kings player since Peja Stojakovic did it in 2002 and 2003. Moreover, it’s worth noting that the Golden State Warriors—albeit to the surprise of no one that has watched the NBA this season—are the only NBA team that will be sending three players to Toronto for the All-Star Game.
There’s no doubt that most of these players are wholly deserving of their All-Star nods, even the struggling Kobe Bryant as he’s essentially a starter for the West as a gesture of gratitude for his contributions to the league and his greatness over his 20-year career as it will come to a close with his retirement at season’s end.
That being said, there are also a number of players who are not found on the All-Star Game rosters that are also deserving of being included and being recognized for what they’ve been able to do this season in terms of performance. Though the term often gets overused, these would be the guys that you would classify as the snubs for the 2016 All-Star Game.
And while the majority of the rosters for each conference deserve their place, there are at least some players that deserve a spot a bit more than those who ultimately will be playing on Sunday, Feb. 14 in Toronto. These are 10 of those players.
