The Chargers will be staying put in San Diego for at least one more season before the move to Los Angeles.

On Friday we received the NFL news that we’ve all been waiting a few weeks for, that being the San Diego Chargers and Los Angeles Rams have agreed in principle to share the Inglewood stadium in LA. From the time that the Rams officially announced that move and the Oakland Raiders were more or less kicked to the curb, it was suspected that the Chargers would soon be on board.

However, things aren’t quite done just yet.

Moments after the report of the agreement came through, Dean Spanos released a statement in which he announced the team will be staying in San Diego for the 2016 season, and furthermore, they will continue to look toward a long-term solution to stay in San Diego.

So now, some might be asking where things go from here. Well, basically, the Chargers will play the 2016 season in San Diego in front of a lot of fans who will not be happy with them at all. But, at the same time, they have the built-in excuse that they’re trying to get a resolution to all of this in place, which may or may not put out the flames.

Now if the Chargers end up passing on the deal in 2017, then the Raiders will be back in play and they’ll have the option once again to take themselves to Los Angeles.

There are still a lot of moving parts here and a lot needs to be done, but at the very least, the Rams will have a partner in Los Angeles in 2017, whether that be the Raiders or the Chargers.
