According to various reports across Italy, Antonio Nocerino could be set to join D.C. United shortly.

Playing time has been difficult to come by for Milan midfielder, Antonio Nocerino. The Italian has not featured nearly as much as he’d like to have for his club this season, and could soon be on his way out of the peninsula.

According to various reports out of Italy, D.C. United are serious about trying to land the midfielder. The club’s general manager, Dave Kasper, attended Milan’s training session on Thursday and Friday, as he works to bring the Italian to the United States. With the player’s contract expiring at the end of the season, a move shouldn’t be too difficult to facilitate if Nocerino is interested.

The 30-year-old has only played two league games for his current club this season, starting in just one of them. Despite his lack of playing time this year, he has a plethora of experience playing across Italy. He has featured for the likes of Juventus, Avellino, Genoa, Catanzaro, Crotone, Messina, Piacenza, Palermo, Torino, Parma, and the aforementioned Milan. He has also played in England with West Ham United, for a brief spell in 2014.

The midfielder has made 15 appearances for his country’s senior national team, and was a member of the Azzurri squad that went to the final of Euro 2012.

D.C. United finished fourth in the Eastern Conference table last year, before being eliminated from the second round of the playoffs by the New York Red Bulls. They will be kicking off the 2016 MLS season on March 6th in Los Angeles against the Galaxy.
