According to Louis van Gaal, he will never quit Manchester United.
It has been a difficult season for Louis van Gaal in his second year at the helm of Manchester United. While he was able to get his club back into the UEFA Champions League by finishing fourth in his first season at Old Trafford, they were eliminated in the group stage and have struggled throughout the current Premier League campaign.
As a result of the team’s woes, there have been a plethora of rumors suggesting that the Dutch tactician won’t be around much longer. After the club’s most recent loss against Southampton, many reports had speculated that van Gaal offered to resign, but that is not the case according to the Manchester United boss.
“I have signed a three-year contract here,” van Gaal told reporters on Thursday, via Goal. “It’s a process, not one game, and I want to continue until the end. When I’m not willing to do that, I don’t think I would have started here one-and-a-half years ago.”
Van Gaal is one of the most experienced head coaches in all of world soccer, having spent time on the bench at Ajax, Barcelona, AZ, and Bayern Munich. However, he has consistently been under the microscope at Manchester United, dealing with scrutiny from the media and fans alike.
The Red Devils currently sit in 5th place in the Premier League table, with 37 points from 23 matches. They will be in action on Friday in FA Cup competition, when they travel to Pride Park Stadium to take on Derby County at 2:55 p.m. ET.
