After earlier reports had linked Antonio Nocerino with a move to D.C. United, it now looks as though the Milan midfielder could be headed to Orlando City.
It had become clear that Milan midfielder Antonio Nocerino had genuine interest in playing in Major League Soccer, after D.C. United had sent an entourage to watch him practice. While it looks as though he could still be headed North America, reports are beginning to emerge that the Italian could be set for a reunion with Kaka at Orlando City instead of going to D.C.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Nocerino turned down D.C. United’s proposal, and would favor a move to Florida instead. His contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but Milan would likely let the 30-year-old leave this winter on a free transfer considering how seldom he plays.
Nocerino has featured in just two league matches this season, and is unlikely to see much more playing time in the second half of the season. He is an experienced journeyman who has played for a plethora of clubs across the peninsula including Milan, Juventus and Palermo.
The Italian would not be arriving as a Designated Player, as Orlando City already have all three of their DP spots taken up by Kaka, Bryan Rochez, and Carlos Rivas.
Orlando kick off their second season of MLS play on March 6th in Utah, when they take on Real Salt Lake at Rio Tino Stadium. The club finished in seventh and just outside a playoff spot in their inaugural campaign, and will be looking to reach the postseason for the first time in 2016.
