Travis Kelce has reached a five-year extension with the Chiefs, making him the second-highest paid tight end in the league.
The Kansas City Chiefs have just made Travis Kelce a very well-paid man. The team announced via social media that their tight end, and premier pass-catcher, has signed an extension.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport disclosed the full contract terms:

That means Kelce only makes less than Rob Gronkowski. While obviously not as good as New England’s No. 87, Kelce is still a nightmare for opposing defenses to guard. When the Chiefs signed Jeremy Maclin it ensured that the team would actually have a wide receiver who can catch touchdowns. They’ve now doubled-down by re-signing Kelce, one of the best offensive weapons in the league. He’s also one of the best characters in the NFL, as shown by this lovely GIF:

Kelce is now the third-highest paid offensive player on the Chiefs, behind Maclin and quarterback Alex Smith, while their highest-paid player in Justin Houston got signed to a big extension last season. The term isn’t too high or too low, and any other team would’ve certainly paid more money to get him. For the Chiefs, they should be glad that they have one of their favorite targets re-signed so quickly after the season. Now the team can focus on building off a successful 2015 campaign.
