With his side already down 2-1 at the Camp Nou, Filipe Luis, was handed a straight red card for an abysmal foul on Lionel Messi.

While Atletico Madrid got off to a flying start on Saturday at the Camp Nou, things quickly changed drastically. First, Lionel Messi evened things up for his side, making it 1-1 and cancelling out Koke’s goal in the 10th minute. Just eight minutes later, Luis Suarez gave his side the lead when he found the back of the net in the 38th minute of the match.

If things weren’t bad enough for the visitors, Filipe Luis, was sent off just before the break for a terrible foul on Messi. The Brazilian defender was handed a straight red in the 44th minute of play, and Atletico Madrid will be forced to play the remainder of the match with just 10 men.

Barcelona are difficult enough to beat with a full strength squad, but with a man down and already a goal behind, Atletico’s task at the Camp Nou just became nearly impossible.

Filipe Luis has been a crucial part of his club’s success this season, featuring in 18 league matches already. His loss will be detrimental for his club against Barcelona, but as well as in their upcoming matches. With his straight red card, he will likely face disciplinary action and a suspension. Atletico Madrid will be back in action next Saturday against Eibar.
