According to a report from The Sun, Diego Costa could be set for a return to Atletico Madrid.
In his first season with Chelsea, Diego Costa helped his club win the Premier League title under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. Things have quickly changed in the Spanish international’s second season though, as the Portuguese tactician was sacked in December and the Stamford Bridge outfit struggle to get into the top half of the table.
However, according to reports out of England on Saturday, we could soon see Costa depart from London as well. The Sun is claiming that the 27-year-old’s former club, Atletico Madrid, want to bring the player back and are willing to exchange their current striker, Jackson Martinez, as part of the deal.
Chelsea have struggled to find the back of the net this season, with just 32 goals in Premier League competition thus far. They recently acquired Brazilian forward, Alexndre Pato, on a six-month loan deal from Sao Paulo. The club wanted to bolster their squad up top during the January transfer window, with Radamel Falcao and Costa, both under performing. The Spaniard has a disappointing eight goals in 19 Premier League matches, while Falcao’s only goal of the campaign came back in August against Crystal Palace.
Costa spent two seasons with Atletico Madrid, scoring a remarkable 56 goals in all competitions during that time. He was a big reason why the club were able to win the La Liga title in 2013-2014, and helped them reach the UEFA Champions League final that year as well.
