These are the five biggest moments from Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson’s career.
One of the greatest wide receivers is set to step down from the NFL. On Sunday, it was announced by Adam Schefter, that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson told the team he plans to retire.
It comes after news that Johnson was mulling retirement after the physical toll that nine years of NFL football had taken on his body. In his time in the league, Johnson was one of the best to ever play the position and although he’s cutting his career short, he’s on the doorstep for the Hall of Fame for the things that he did in his time in the league.
He’s created memories that will last forever in football lore and he was one of the rare players that physically transcended the game.
Whether it was his 329 yards in a single game, having a catch rule named after him or breaking Jerry Rice’s single-season record, Johnson did some things in his career that only he can lay claim to.
While he didn’t accomplish all the things that he would have liked to with the Detroit Lions, it was quite the career as he stayed loyal to the city and they remained loyal to him.
While he might not have all the hardware, he will always have all the moments and that’s something that many can’t say that they have.
