1. Calvin Johnson sets single-season receiving yards record

If a wide receiver puts themselves in the same company as Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, then they are doing something right in their career. If they eclipse something done by Rice, then they have done something special that will forever be remembered.

That’s exactly what Johnson did in 2012, when he broke the NFL single-season receiving yards record held by Rice. It was a Saturday night, with the Atlanta Falcons in town for a visit. The pass that broke the record was a simple pass across the middle from Matthew Stafford to Johnson, who then sprinted toward the first down marker and picked up the extra yardage.

Johnson would finish his 2012 campaign with 1,964 yards, which marked the best receiving year in the history of the NFL. Many of Rice’s stats are so far ahead of anyone else that they will probably never be broken.

Many thought the same of his single-season receiving yards record, but Johnson went out and put together an absolutely ridiculous season that will be remembered forever and it’s an accomplishment that will strongly help his case for making the Hall of Fame one day.

Just like the records of Rice, it’s hard to see anyone ever topping the record that Johnson set in 2012.
