The Chicago Bulls have a lot of interesting decisions to make leading up to the trade deadline. They are in contention toward the top of the Eastern Conference, but they’re also a team that’s wounded and struggling to find a rhythm this season.
While they are a much more competitive team in the playoffs and an absolute nightmare for anyone to play, the Bulls are going to have to make moves at the deadline if they’re going to take the next step and make the NBA Finals. That means trading perhaps an established piece in a bigger deal.
One player that could be moved is Taj Gibson. Gibson has been linked to trade rumors for some time now and it will be interesting to see if the Bulls move him to bring someone in that can provide a little more offense under Fred Hoiberg’s system.
Gibson has always been limited offensively, but he brings a physical edge and toughness that really energizes the Bulls when he’s on the court. However, it’s clear that the Bulls need some form of a change and that could be swapping Gibson out for someone else.
While the team is lacking depth in the front court at the moment, that shouldn’t sway them from trading Gibson, as they still have Pau Gasol and a young Bobby Portis to fill the void. They will also be getting back Nikola Mirotic soon enough and could bring in more depth up front via trades at the deadline.
