Kobe Bryant often comes across as a cold individual. Thanks to his famous scowl, lack of friendships and intense competitiveness, most people see Kobe as a someone who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. While it at times feels like that is the way Bryant wants things, every once in a while he does something that destroys that idea. This weekend was one of those times.

That tweet comes from Emmanuel Omogbo, a player at Colorado State who recently lost his parents and twin niece and nephew in a house fire. Omogbo played the day after the tragedy and returned to action again for the Rams on Wednesday after a some time in back home in Maryland. On Saturday he shared the message that Bryant had sent him.
While a 20 second video won’t change anything for Omogbo, it can help with the recovery process. For Kobe to take time out of his day and record something to show he cares is something that he did not have to do, especially since no one would have said a word. Yet he did and did it without any expectation of the public knowing. If Omogbo did not share the video via Twitter, no one beside Kobe and he would have known about it.
So yes, as surprising as it may seem for some people, Kobe Bryant has a heart.
