5 trade destinations for Shabazz Muhammad
Here are five potential trade destinations for Minnesota Timberwolves forward Shabazz Muhammad.
Once upon a time Shabazz Muhammad was a can’t miss prospect with a future as bright as can be. The 2012 McDonald’s All-American game MVP was a five-star recruit out of the prestigious Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas and had the choice of playing college basketball at Kentucky, UCLA, and Duke. Shabazz took his sweet left-handed shot and play-making ability to UCLA and played with the Bruins for one season. Upon the completion of his freshman season he was named the co-Pac-12 freshman of the year and to the All Pac-12 team. No one questioned his scoring ability, as he averaged 17.9 points a game. However, he rarely distributed the ball and didn’t show the defensive intensity that NBA scouts were hoping for. Regardless, Muhammad entered the 2013 draft and was the 14th overall pick.
Shabazz Muhammed did not make an impact his rookie season, averaging only 7.8 minutes on a bad Minnesota Timberwolves team and even spent time in the NBA Development League. There were moments when he showed the potential that made him a can’t miss prospect, but a knee injury ultimately ended his season. His second season in the NBA saw an increase in playing time and production as he averaged 13.5 points per game and was selected to play in the 2015 Rising Stars Challenge. Injuries took their toll again and a torn finger ligament ultimately sidelined Muhammad for the remainder of the season.
This season Shabazz Muhammad has come off the bench in all forty-eight of the Timberwolves games and is averaging 10 points-per-game. He has shown much more versatility than being just a scorer and is making a niche on a deep Timberwolves team. Despite his improvements, his name has been linked in trade speculation and there are teams out there that could use a scoring wing. A change of scenery for the twenty-three year old might be in order, and with that here are 5 potential trade destinations for Shabazz Muhammad.
