Twitter is buzzing with news of Calvin Johnson’s reported retirement.
The sports world was sent into an uproar on Sunday with the breaking news that Calvin Johnson has decided to retire. NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke the story on his Twitter account.

It’s a shocking development, considering the star wide receiver is still very much in his prime at the age of 30. If Megatron has indeed decided to call it a career, as early reports have indicated, he will be doing so after only nine years as a pro.
Johnson owns the NFL records for most receiving yards in a season and the most consecutive games with at least 100 receiving yards, and is the fastest player to reach 10,000 receiving yards in his career. He will also retire as the Detroit Lions’ all-time leader in a number of categories, including receiving touchdowns in a season, career receiving yards, and career receiving touchdowns.
Many people took to Twitter on Sunday to share their thoughts and reactions on Megatron’s decision to retire.
What a great career. I'm sure he will venture into the engineering world after next season. Good for him! https://t.co/i8TEnG91XS

With Calvin Johnson retiring, Ole Miss WR Laquon Treadwell is NOT falling past the Lions at #16.

This is just the beginning of what will surely be an avalanche of well-wishes across all social media platforms towards the potential future Hall of Famer. Much like Barry Sanders did before him, Calvin Johnson is leaving the Lions at the peak of his abilities.
Perhaps no matter how great an athlete you are, playing for a forever-losing team just saps your desire to compete over time. It’s a premature farewell for one of Detroit’s finest football greats.
