Panthers star cornerback Josh Norman wore a luchador mask to Super Bowl 50 Opening night ‘for all his Spanish guys out there’

There was no more unexpected rise to superstardom this season than that of Carolina Panthers quarterback Josh Norman. While there were high hopes, few expected him to emerge as arguably the best player at the position in the NFL this season on the Panthers’ run to Super Bowl 50. Now that he did and now that he’s in Santa Clara, CA for the Super Bowl, he’s enjoying the moment—luchador mask and all.

As Norman took his post to talk to the media on Monday night, he donned a Panthers themed lucha libre mask as he proclaimed, “This is for all my Spanish guys out there:”

While there are certainly hundreds of Panthers fans trying to figure out where they can buy one of those lucahdor masks right now—and rightfully so—the elephant in the room that someone should probably tell Norman about is that lucha libre is a thing that originated in Mexico, not Spain.

However, Josh Norman isn’t going to be asked to give anyone a history lesson on luchadors and their style of professional wrestling on Feb. 7 in Levi’s Stadium. While he may need the high-flying, fast-paced style that is used in lucha libre to try and slow down Demaryius Thomas, it’s just a bit of a different game out on the gridiron.
