Pistons Trade Rumors: Detroit staying put for now
Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy doesn’t see a trade for his team right now
The Detroit Pistons look like a team that’s going to be heavily involved in the Eastern Conference playoff race down the stretch in the 2015-16 NBA season. As they currently occupy the No. 8 seed, though, fans might assume that would mean they are a candidate to make a deal before the Feb. 18 NBA Trade Deadline. According to the team’s president of basketball operations and head coach, Stan Van Gundy, that’s not necessarily the case.
When asked about the current trade market on Monday, Van Gundy spoke relatively openly about what the Pistons were seeing and SVG stated that there really didn’t seem to be any deals out there right now that he and the organization deemed worth pursuing:
Van Gundy continued on the subject when talking to Rob Beard of The Detroit News, saying that there were indeed offers coming in, but those offers largely included giving up players or assets in exchange for expiring contracts, an idea that SVG isn’t keen on:
It’s hard not to look at that statement and have current New Orleans Pelicans power forward Ryan Anderson come to mind. Anderson will be a free-agent in 2016 and there have been numerous reports that Van Gundy and the Pistons would love to add him to their roster to help further mimic the system that SVG played during his time as the head coach of the Orlando Magic.
With what Van Gundy is saying now, though, it seems clear that Anderson going to the Pistons would be a move that would happen in free agency rather than before the upcoming trade deadline. Whether or not any trades not involving expiring contracts come to the forefront for the Pistons in the coming days will remain to be seen, though.
