According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the Phoenix Suns have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek.

In a move that’s been expected for a while, the Phoenix Suns have fired head coach Jeff Hornacek, according to Adrain Wojnarowski. The Suns were in the midst of a 2-19 skid that saw them plummet to the bottom of the league in both offense and defense.

The problems with the Suns didn’t just begin this season. After winning 48 games in exciting fashion during the 2013-2014 season, the Suns struggled to maintain the chemistry during the 2014-2015 season, which saw the team make a myriad of moves, and in the process alienate former players.

During that season, there was a moment during a game on ESPN where forward Marcus Morris got in the face of Hornacek and many questioned whether or not he had control of his locker room. The team had issues with technicals and constantly lost their composure on the court. In a move that could have been some foreshadowing, the Suns didn’t extend Hornacek before he went into the final year of his contract.

This season the Suns never got off the ground, and with disgruntled power forward Markieff Morris and a team struggling to pick up wins, Hornacek continued to lose the locker room even further and the Suns found themselves toward the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference.

In December, the Suns fired Hornacek’s top two assistants Mike Longabardi and Jerry Sichting, which signified that the end could be near for him. The  organization would then continue their terrible stretch and it was clear that there was just no effort on the court from the players.

With the Suns in a position for a top pick and injuries ravaging the roster, there were questions about whether or not the Suns would let Hornacek ride out the year. That didn’t happen and now they will be in the market for a new head coach in the offseason.
