Bret Hart announced on Monday morning that he has prostate cancer
Bret Hart is one of the greatest professional wrestlers in the history of the sport, both by his own proclamation and the opinions of fans and critics alike. However, the wrestling world received a shock on Monday morning involving the WWE legend in The Hitman as he took to Instagram to announce that he has prostate cancer.
In a long, heartfelt post to his account, Bret Hart stated that his “fight” against the disease has begun and that he will undergo surgery that “in hope of defeating this nemesis once and for all:”
The Hitman’s post covers all of the basis and hits home for WWE and general wrestling fans in a major way. Hart compares this newfound fight with prostate cancer to the stroke that he suffered in 2002 and saying that he will have to beat the odds again. In a harrowing tone that echoes throughout the Instagram post and announcement, Hart proclaims, “I refuse to lose, I will never give in or give up, and I will win this battle or die trying.”
Hart comes off 100 percent as he always portrayed himself to be when he was still competing in the squared circle. He was always a fighter just as much as a wrestler throughout his career in WWE and WCW and he seems 100 percent set on fighting and beating prostate cancer in this fight.
I think it’s safe to say that wrestling fans’ thoughts and prayers are with Bret Hart as he starts and continues this battle with cancer. He’s the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be—and it’s far too soon to see him go.
