5. Get the ball out quickly

If there’s been one knock against Newton in his NFL career, it’s that he gets the ball out too slowly, in part due to a windup and release that takes longer than most of the other top quarterbacks. Newton must be careful not to hang on to the ball too long in the Super Bowl, or he will face the wrath of the Broncos’ pass rush.

Denver recorded an incredible 20 quarterback hits on Brady in the AFC Championship, the most in any game since 2006 per CBS Boston. Nobody gets the ball out faster than Brady other than perhaps Aaron Rodgers, so it may seem like Newton faces a difficult task.

Von Miller is the key man of the Broncos pass rush and has the ability to completely take over a game for long periods, even if he disappears for stretches sometimes. If a team decides to focus on eliminating Miller, the Broncos have DeMarcus Ware ready to go from the other side, while Derek Wolfe played very well last Sunday as well.

Of course, the Panthers have a much better offensive line and running game than the New England Patriots at this point, which will help. Still, it’s a matter of containing rather than stopping the Denver pass rush, so Newton will face plenty of pressure.

Newton needs to run through his progressions quickly and release the ball fast to avoid taking a beating like Brady did.
