Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith flew in for a monster block on an alley-oop and abused the basketball.
J.R. Smith has never been exactly the barometer for defensive basketball in his career. That doesn’t mean the explosive scorer can’t get up and make a defensive highlight from time to time however.
Against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night, Smith was a defensive sieve on one play, as he robbed Jeremy Lamb of a big highlight slam.
As Lamb went up for the lob, Smith flew in from absolutely out of nowhere and abused the basketball with a monster block that left everyone wondering what had just happen.
Talk about some heads up hustle. For all the criticism that Smith gets for his style of play, he has shown an ability to make plays on the defensive end if he gives the effort. This was one of those plays where Smith sacrificed the body to make the block and he ended up snatching the ball out of the air during an alley-oop.
The Hornets weren’t exactly what hit them, but Smith flew in like a majestic eagle and made the ball his prey. Smith sure has a penchant for making unbelievable plays.
