The nation’s No. 1 recruit, five-star defensive tackle Rashan Gary, has committed to Michigan.

The wait is finally over. After taking a limo to his announcement ceremony on Wednesday morning for National Signing Day, the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit, Rashan Gary, has chosen the Michigan Wolverines.

It was a long process, and a winding one at that, as the five-star from Paramus, N.J., was down to both Clemson and Michigan about a week before signing day, finally settling on his favorite. Some are surprised with the choice since the tides seem to have shifted on National Signing Day — Michigan, the overwhelming favorite, was looking like an underdog.

Gary, ranked No. 1 by basically every recruiting service out there, has been tabbed as the best talent in the class and a guy who could start for basically any program in the nation. He will be joining an already-loaded, and impressive, 2016 signing class at Michigan which ranks in the top 10.

Michigan has one of the top recruiting classes in 2016 and has already added a couple of commitments on National Signing Day. It’s been a successful afternoon thus far, but will Jim Harbaugh add anyone else surprising before the day is over?

Finishing the 2015 season with a 10-3 record and fourth-place finish in the Big Ten, the Wolverines improved drastically from Brady Hoke’s final season to Jim Harbaugh’s first. The Wolverines will be one of the top teams in the conference once again for 2016 and don’t be surprised to see them make a run at a national title in the near future as well.

National Signing Day has taken on a life of its own and a decade ago, you never would have seen the type of exposure these kids are getting. Taking to ESPN to make college announcements might seem silly, but that’s exactly what the fans want. Gary has become the star of the show, and deservedly so.
