Bill Romanowski’s strategy of trying to stop Cam Newton in the Super Bowl is, well, festive.
Bill Romanowski, a former linebacker best known for his time in Denver and San Francisco, gave a recent interview he might live to regret. All he was doing was offering up some advice to the Broncos on how to stop Cam Newton.
However, it’s not exactly the most sound advice:
"Bill Romanowski on how he’d stop Cam: I would hit him as hard as possible then try to choke him under the pile.https://t.co/nIuvWGVc2i— Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) February 3, 2016"
Chris Simms is awkwardly laughing it off as if he’s telling a joke, but you can tell by the way he’s describing it that he might not totally be joking. Now, Romanowski did play in a different era of football but he probably still wouldn’t have gotten away with that.
It’s curious that someone would emerge saying this around the same time that Cam Newton himself is attributing a lot of the backlash towards him to racism. It’s one thing to not be a fan of his on-field antics, but it’s another thing altogether to try and choke him out on the field. Hopefully, Romanowski is able to see the error in his ways and apologize to Cam. I’m sure deep down, he respects his talent.
Besides, Newton will be facing a tough test as is in the Broncos pass-rush headlined by Von Miller, who frustrated the hell out of Tom Brady in the AFC Championship Game.
