Dwight Howard rumors: Rockets asking price is too high
According to Chris Mannix, the Houston Rockets‘ asking price for Dwight Howard is too steep for teams.
The Houston Rockets and Dwight Howard could be heading for a split pretty soon. Whether it’s at the trade deadline or Howard potentially opting out of his deal to get a better one with the salary cap spike, the two sides could be parting ways soon.
While the Rockets haven’t been afraid to engage teams about Howard as the trade deadline nears, it doesn’t seem likely that they are going to be moving Howard somewhere else. According to Chris Mannix, the Rockets’ asking price for Howard is steep.
It makes all the sense in the world for teams to be weary of trading for Howard. While they would be getting one of the best centers in the league, there’s no guarantee that he would stay after the season with a potential opt-out occurring in his contract.
Howard’s going to look to get paid like the rest of the stars in the NBA and he’s going to take the deal that’s best for him. At the same time, the Rockets could also feel like they’re the best option of giving him the new deal that he wants and making sure that he remains a member of the Rockets.
The Rockets certainly know that they could lose him, but they also know they have a strong chance of keeping him and aren’t going to just dump his contract for nothing. It’s a calculated move by the Rockets to dangle Howard out on the trade market and they’re gauging the offers that they could receive in return.
More likely than not, Howard will still be a member of the Rockets when the deadline passes because the asking price is too high as it should be and the Rockets shouldn’t feel too inclined to move him unless they’re blown away by an offer at the last second.
