It took little time at all for Johnny Manziel to formally deny claims of domestic abuse alleged against him.
Thursday evening saw the release of the police report detailing what Colleen Crowley told cops happened during an January 30th incident with Johnny Manziel. The report detailed chilling accounts of domestic abuse against Crowley, including Manziel dragging her away from valet as she screamed for help that never came.
Manziel told TMZ — of all places — that he did not strike Crowley and did not threaten to kill her or himself.
For what it’s worth, Manziel has not been formally charged with a single thing, despite what appears to be in the police report. The NFL commented that they are aware of the police report as an investigation of their own was launched as soon as they heard about it.
This goes so far beyond football, as the NFL has been tied in very ugly ways to domestic violence. Manziel has been linked heavily to the Dallas Cowboys after it was revealed that the Browns will be cutting him as soon as the new league year begins in March. The Cowboys already have Greg Hardy on roster, who was punished by the league for a similarly violent incident with is girlfriend while still with the Panthers.
Hardy was eventually charged but got off before he was handed any punishment from the law. Needless to say, Manziel’s career in football should be the least of anyone’s concerns and this police report is only going to highlight the fact that this is a person who needs help before he someone gets seriously hurt.
