Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson definitely tried to clothesline Jonas Jerebko

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics were taking part in a dogfight on the hardwood on Friday night inside Quicken Loans Arena. With two fiery Eastern Conference foes squaring off, the emotions and tensions were obviously a little high. However, Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving and forward Tristan Thompson may have gotten a little carried away with the intensity as they basically turned the game into a WWE event.

Late in the second half of the matchup, LeBron James had the ball at the top of the key with Jonas Jerebko guarding him. Kyrie and Thompson went to the perimeter to set a screen on Jerebko, but inexplicably linked arms as they went to go set the pick. As a result, the duo for the Cavs just ended up essentially clotheslining the Celtics forward in the back of the head:

Other than the idea that they thought that they were trying to take out John Cena or some other face from behind, I have no idea why in the hell Irving and Thompson would link arms like that. That’s not how you set a screen, like ever. It’s one of the more baffling things you’ll see in the NBA.

And if they did think that they were in the WWE for a second, well then they need to put a little more power behind it next time—it didn’t even get Jerebko on his back.
