Cam Newton wins 2015 MVP and OPOY
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was named the 2015 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year.
The NFL Honors show has become the tradition before the Super Bowl, and on Saturday night, Cam Newton was named the NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year. It’s was expected coming into the awards that Newton would run away with both honors.
And Newton got 48 of 50 votes.
On the season, Newton progressed as a quarterback and put his name in the discussion as the best quarterback in the league. He was just as dynamic through the air as he was on the ground.
On the season, Newton threw for 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also rushed for 636 yards and had 10 touchdowns on the ground. Behind Newton at quarterback, the Panthers finished with the top-ranked offense in the league and they were just as dynamic on offense as they were on defense.
More incredibly for Newton was the fact that he lost his top receiver Kelvin Benjamin before the season and he was able to put the ball in a spot that the rest of his receivers could go get.
An MVP is about being more than just stats. It’s about a player making the team around him better and that’s exactly what Newton did on the season. Whether it was the fun he was having on the field or his infectious personality, Newton grew as a leader and the rest of his team followed him wherever he went.
Where they went was a 17-1 season that has landed them with a chance to win the franchises first Super Bowl on Sunday. It’s been a season full of accomplishments for Newton and on Saturday, he was rewarded for one of the best seasons by a quarterback ever.
