Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt won his third Defensive Player of the Year award in four years on Saturday.

The NFL Honors have been good to J.J. Watt for the last four years and they were good to him again on Saturday night. For the third time in four years, Watt was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

On the season, Watt was an absolute machine and lived in the opposing team’s backfield. Watt finished the season with 17.5 sacks and had three huge forced fumbles for the Texans. He was the emotional leader of his team and his passion for the game helped carry his team to an AFC South Championship.

The Texans made the playoffs in 2015, but they weren’t the typical playoff team led by a quarterback. Their success started defensively with Watt getting pressure on the quarterback and setting up the rest of his teammates on defense with a chance to make plays.

Winning the Defensive Player of the Year is nothing new for Watt. With it being his third award, it shows the work that he puts into being the best defensive player in the league every single season. He’s a physical specimen that is talented enough to be a factor in multiple areas and he never takes a day off.

It’s not often that a defensive end can carry a team to the playoffs, but Watt did that in 2015.
