The majority of the sporting world is focused on Super Bowl 50.

We are not among that group.

Instead of spending energy on the biggest spectacle in American sports, the topic today (and every week) is the worst of the worst in the NBA. This space is occupied by the bottom five teams in the league, and our task is ranking the group in terms of their tanking prospects.

Keep in mind that this is a very fluid list, but in the same breath, season-long performance does matter in some way. An accumulation of ping-pong balls is the central idea. Let’s roll through the rankings.

The T-Wolves are pretty maddening on a nightly basis. For example, Minnesota inexplicably allowed 119 points to the Lakers in a bad loss this week, but on the following night Andrew Wiggins and company knocked off the playoff-bound Clippers on the road.

Minnesota’s 15-36 record is not a fluke, as this is a flawed team with a below-average head coach in Sam Mitchell. However, there are bright spots, highlighted by the stellar play of Karl-Anthony Towns. And when the Wolves are firing, they look very good.

In terms of the recent past, Minnesota has posted a -0.3 net rating over the last 10 games (3-7 record). The Wolves aren’t quite playing well enough on the whole to miss the bottom five and, well, it would probably benefit the organization down the road to tank their way to prosperity in the upcoming NBA Draft.
.
