5 potential replacements for George Karl
If the Sacramento Kings decide to fire George Karl, these five coaches should be viewed as replacements.
The Sacramento Kings and George Karl appear to be finally heading toward an inevitable split of a relationship between coach and organization that appeared toxic from the moment that Karl was hired.
Whether it was the dynamic of Karl’s relationship with All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins, management that couldn’t make a decision or plenty of losses, Karl’s fate has appeared sealed since the minute he walked he through the door and agreed to coach a franchise that has gone through coaches left and right.
Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that the Kings were weighing the decision of firing Karl after the team suffered an embarrassing loss on the road against a bad Brooklyn Nets team.
The Kings started off the season losing seven of eight and it looked like Karl would be sent packing right away to begin the season. Then the ascension of DeMarcus Cousins happened and the Kings worked hard to put themselves in contention for the eighth seed in the Western Conference.
Lately they’ve began to slip up a little bit and have fallen behind in the standings. With a bad loss to Brooklyn and the Kings needing to do something, it could very well mean the end of George Karl.
If that’s the case, then the Kings are going to have to make sure the next coach is the right one. It’s also going to be hard for the franchise to land a coach with the instability in management and the fact that coaches do not last for long in Sacramento.
Add in the fact the Kings don’t have a lot of future assets after multiple bad trades and the job is even tougher than it looks on paper. However, should the Kings fire Karl, these are the five replacements they should look at.
