Cam Newton’s reaction after seeing his MVP season fall just short is nothing short of depressing.

It was a near perfect season for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers. After leading his team to a 17-1 record and blowing out the Arizona Cardinals, few doubted that they would get the job down at Super Bowl 50. But when an unstoppable force came against an immovable object, the latter turned out to win as the Denver Broncos’ defense put on a clinic.

After Von Miller forced a fumble and made his case for Super Bowl MVP, the Broncos scored the game-clinching touchdown. And Cam’s reaction after getting this far and coming up short is full of dejection:

Regardless of what your opinions are of Cam Newton and his showboating, you can hardly question that he was the MVP this season and that what he did this year was amazing. In the end, he came up short because the Broncos’ pass rush is the stuff of nightmares. In the end, he can’t say that he did much worse than Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady did against Denver’s secondary unit.

While this is almost certainly Peyton Manning’s last season ever, this is only Newton’s fifth ever season and he’s full of promise. Not many quarterbacks can say they’ve accomplished what Newton has accomplished in five years and you have to think that he will be back. But give credit to the Denver Broncos for executing the perfect game plan.
